Leather Sheath
Leather Sheath
Leather is known for its durability and traditional appeal. When compared to kydex it is preferred for its silence when bumped against other objects, as well as blade retention.
1095 Carbon Steel
1095 Carbon Steel
An excellent hard use steel, 1095 is a primary choice for camping and larger fixed blade knives for it's extreme toughness and ability to hold an edge. Corrosion resistance is very limited with this steel, most blades come with a coating to prevent premature rusting.

Raider bowie
This was my first ontario knife, I'm a loyal cold steel customer but I've heard so many great things about Ontario and how great there knives are so I picked this one up. Out of the box I fell in love with love with this knife the handle very comfortable nice big heavy knive. Anyway long story short this knife never even got to see the bush or leave my back yard, after having it for two days I was trying out some chopping with it and was extremely impressed with it until the handle snapped off.

An excellent combat/camp knife.
This knife is made 1095 high carbon steel, and ontario knows how to heat treat it properly for the use (with chopping in mind), the edge and spine aren't overhardened. It has all the good characteristics you would want in a fighting knife: positive grip, solid steel hilt, adequate length, excellent cutting/chopping/thrusting capabilities. As well as being a great camp knife and also serves as a good conversation piece. I've purchased this knife twice because my first one was stolen, that says something about my opinion of the knife. The one I got from amazon came dull, the one I newly ordered from knifecenter came exceptionally sharp, able to shave my arm even with the very tip of the point. This knife's balance point is about half an inch to an inch above the ricasso and feels very light and agile in the hand considering the knife's size and the thickness of the blade. It is blade heavy without feeling overbuilt, clumsy or axelike. The only downsides in my opinion are the sheath, it's well made with rigid nylon and leather but it looks extremely ugly and doesn't do the knife justice, as well as being awkward to get the knife in and out of. Also the hilt can irritate your hand if you choke up while chopping. Other than that the knife is superb for the price point, I would recommend getting a kydex sheath instead of the factory one (keep the original incase you want to sell the knife in the future) if you are worried about the looks of the knife.

Poor quality control
Don't get me wrong, Ontario has had excellent products that I've purchased in the past, but the luck I've had with this knife has been terrible. The first knife came very dull, and the sheath's buttons literally sheared in half when I tried to unsnap them. When I called about it, they sent me a whole new knife with sheath. One button had the same problem the moment I got it and attempted to unsnap it, cleanly snapped into two pieces. The knife itself came with a rattling guard; it was not secured to the knife at all and actively shook around between the blade and the grip. Very annoying, either ordered in a time period where someone who hated people was in charge of quality control, or it's just that poorly made of a knife. Other big knife products that I recommend from Ontario are the SP8 Survival Machete, the SP6 Fighter, and the Ranger series.
