1095 Carbon Steel
An excellent hard use steel, 1095 is a primary choice for camping and larger fixed blade knives for it's extreme toughness and ability to hold an edge. Corrosion resistance is very limited with this steel, most blades come with a coating to prevent premature rusting.

Pros: Weight, Handle Material, None
Cons: Blade Sharpness
Not Bad
Only issue I have with it was the blade being dull as a butter knife.

almost what I wanted
to replace an old air force survival knife because the leather handle grew a mold problem. Love the fit and feel in my hand and the overall ergonomics. The sheath seems great after using it on 6 or so day hikes and in the garden. It`s a very utilitarian sheath and if it holds up with time it will be great. The rope cutting thing gets in the way and is, in fact, a minor hazard as it snags on clother etc. Can`t gig them for this because it was in the picture and description when I ordered it. The stone is a cheapy for emergency use only, which is what it is there for. Use something better for routine sharpening. I did gig them 1 point because ti came literally duller than a cheap butter knife. The only reason I can think a survival knife would come this dull is Ontario`s complete comtempt for the customer.

The sheath
I'm not really reviewing the knife but commenting on Heathers comment on the sheath.where she stated it's not well made. For a sheath that comes with a knife, it is actually very well made and functional with a decent emergency stone included. I got mine along with a Scrap Yard Dumpster Mutt not with the original USN_1, from an actual working Mercenery friend of mine. I have to add that in spite of it being well made and practically bomb proof, I do not like it asthetically. It is ugly with a combination of cordura nylon and possibly kydex or hard plastic combination construction. But it is sturdy so do not think it is not up to the job at hand. By the way, I really like the Dumpster Mutt that came with the sheath.
