An excellent hard use steel, 1095 is a primary choice for camping and larger fixed blade knives for its extreme toughness and ability to hold an edge. Corrosion resistance is very limited with this steel, most blades come with a coating to prevent premature rusting.

Heavy but does not split as well as my Schrade SCH10, which is why I got it. A friend said the saw back ruined the knife.

Best Machete Ever Australian buyer
I have owned this knife since 1997, and I can honestly say this is the most functional knife I have ever owned. Great for survival situations, and general work around the farm. I use mine now to "skin" trees for fence posts. It is almost like the knife was made especially for this job. It takes Iron bark and stringy bark off with ease (Australian gum trees). I must admit I did spend some time changing the angle of the blade edge, and I can shave hairs of my arm with it now. Never any reason to use the serrated edge on the back of the blade, so can not comment on that. Wish I had the same knife when I served, you will not be disappointed..

Cons: Sheath/Scabbard
Great knife
I love the quality of the knife. It's heavy and extremely sharp right out of the box. The fit and finish is excellent. The sheath on the other hand is horrible. It's hard to snap, some of the snaps have minor rust spots, the knife doesn't slide in easily, and the leather is to stiff. I'm going to see if I can find an alternative.
