Pros: Lock Type, Handle Material, Handle Feel, Blade Sharpness, Blade Material, Ease of Opening, Weight, Lock Ease of Use, Overall Quality
I use this DIY knife as it was intended to be used and it excels in its intended role. As usual silly people complain about silly things with opinels. #Weak ringlock - an internet myth. Locks up solid with no blade play year after year. I cannot say that about any other knife I've ever owned regardless of price. # It's not sharp out of the box. Opinels must be the easiest production knife to sharpen, period;'so sharpen the d#mn thing!# Opening is not single handed. - Mine is! After 15min of calibrating I can open AND close it single handed faster than any of my other single handed knives. Don't believe me? Don't buy one. # They rust easy - Pffft. If they get wet, dry it! Common sense. I always carry carbon steel Opinel and I've never had one rust out because I USE it, and I live on the salty humid east coast of Australia. # They aren't great for battening - of course they're not! And who seriously battens with folding knives anyway? It's a stupid thing to do. As far as the DIY opinel goes, it does everything it was designed to do and it does it very well. As far as all Opinels go, they aren't for pretenders or mall ninjas. You won't get "it" until you've owned one.
