The long opening in the handle, reduces the weight of the knife to only 120 grams and serves as a shackle opener at the same time. A 19.7" (50 cm) flexcord lanyard protects the Charlie One from loss. Cons: Sheath/Scabbard, None
Minimal, Maximal
I have always been a fan of the versatility and reliability of small skeleton handle fixed blades. It is ultimately convenient to carry them as neck knives. Most that you can find are quite small and light weight, with sub- three inch blades and made from relatively thin stock. The Pohl Force Charlie One is a heavy duty alternative to those small, thin knives. It is made from thicker stock, has a full handle for hard use, and a blade over 3". It is still a light weight, one piece knife, but strong enough for the next level of hard use. Ergonomics are very good, and the cutting edge is efficiently thin. It is slim enough to attach to your gear very compactly as an any where, all the time backup. I actually carry it as a neck knife most of the time around the house. Production quality is very high, nice soft corners everywhere, nicely finished. The only niggle is the sheath it comes with. It is a Kydex unit but unfortunately does not grip the knife securely. The knife comes with a bit of shock cord that you can loop around the sheath to hold the knife in, but that is unnecessarily inconvenient. The belt loop piece on it is adjustable for vertical to 45 degree carry, but is quite bulky and ruins the low drag nature of the knife itself. I got a custom sheath made for it that I can wear inverted without bothering with secondary retention. Overall, I think this is an excellent knife. I consider it a super heavy duty neck/backup knife, really great for low visibility carry or hiking. Maximum function, minimal drag.
