Herter's Improved Bowie
I purchased both these knives as gifts for fellow Vietnam vets. I bought my first knife of this design as a "Herter's Improved Bowie" 54 years ago. My knife sharpens easily and holds an edge well, and is kept in my tackle box. The sheath could stand upgrading, but, what does one expect at these prices?

Below average far from great
I agree that this would have been an excellent knife had better QC been taken with my knife. My knife's blade was dull and placed in in the block slightly crooked. The tip curves back slightly to the right. Bottom line it's crooked. It should have never left the r Murphy facility like this. I expect more from an American company. It is a twenty dollar knife but its the principle. Mora would stomp this blade any day hands down for the same money. I own Murphy's camp knife as well and it's a jewel. Love it. Bottom line: get your QC under control if you expect serious users to buy your blade. Highly disappointed. Would not buy again.

Good knife for the price
I have not been out in the field yet with this knife, just around the home testing so far. I like the quality of the blade and the handle material. The finish on the blade is cloudy and not done intentionally. When I showed the knife to a friend he commented that it "felt like a steak knife" from an outback resturant. I agree that the handle is blocky and awkward. A few minutes with some sand paper and the handle felt very much at home in my hand. So not a deal breaker. The blade is full tang, and the very end of the handle has a lanyard hole. The quality of the sheath leaves a lot to be disired, but so do most other sub $20 knives. All in all I really like this knife so far and intend to field test it soon. I will probable purshase another depending on the field test results. Plus it is made in the USA.
