Description
RPDPHFX010: HEFT 4 Milspec
DPx Gear

The DPx Gear Hostile Environment Fighting Tool (HEFT) 4 may be the most balanced knife we offer. It's discrete enough to keep a low profile, but it's big enough to handle jobs that would compromise most four-inch knives.

The 3.94" (100.08mm) blade is high-performance, German-made Lohmann Niolox stainless steel and is cryo-hardened to a Rockwell Hardness of <59. Lohmann Niolox steel is prized for its ability to hold up to abuse and retain cutting edge. By using Niolox steel, we've combined the best qualities of stainless and high-carbon steels to provide you with a superior hard use tool.

Because Niolox has high-carbon steel characteristics, it is easier to sharpen but can develop corrosion if not coated or cared for. Dry your knife before sheathing or storing it. Like all DPx Gear knives, we ask that you use a whetstone or diamond sharpener to dress the edge, and NEVER use a motorized grinder.

The spine of the blade is an impressive 0.19" (4.83mm) thick, and features three sizes of wire strippers that serve as jimping. The knife has a lanyard hole and lashing points, and an integrated striker and pry bar on the pommel.

The handle scales are secured with two 304 stainless steel hybrid slotted Allen screws. The scales conceal a storage compartment designed for small items like fire starter or water-purification tablets. The handle also has a 1/4" magnetized hex driver near the pommel.

The HEFT 4 was designed by Tommaso Rumici with input from Robert Young Pelton and is manufactured by LionSteel of Maniago, Northern Italy.

The Milspec is a low-profile, high-performance fighting tool. The HEFT Milspec is an excellent choice for law enforcement, security and military use. The contoured handle is made of black American G10 scales. The knife weighs 6.95 oz. and comes in a black Cordura sheath.

Do it all Survival Knife
If the ESEE 3 or 4 handle is a little thin for you, this DPx HEFT is a great knife for you. The G10 scales are round nicely for a comfortable grip and the thumb ramp with jimping is awesome. I like the slip in design of the sheath, it allows me to sheath and unsheath my knife quickly while providing adequate retention. The button straps are leather lined, which is awesome btw, and that prevents you from cutting those straps when you pull the knife out. The steel is beautifully stonewashed, comes hair-popping sharp, and holds an excellent edge. Through my use, it's proved to be extremely rust resistant and durable - it's far exceeded my expectations. What a great knife that's also got the perfect tool to pop a top off at the end of a long day - very well thought out and executed design.

great user knife
Will do just about all you would need a 4 inch blade to do. The only thing that didn't work for me with this knife were the wire strippers, those didn't seem to work as intended, but as a consolation, they work GREAT for striking a flint. The blade grind is a little asymmetrical, though and that is one thing that is not often mentioned about this knife. Like the type of grind you would get if you hand sharpened it on a flat stone one side at a time, without applying the same number of strokes on each side.

I. Love. This. Blade.
Sheath is tricky to get onto a MOLLE attachment. Haven't tried belt deployment. The knife feels awesome in the hand. Too early to make a verdict on the steel used.
