Description
RPDPHSX101: DPx HEST Original by Rowen
DPx Gear

The DPx H•E•S•T or Hostile Environment Survival Tool™ is the knife that started it all... the original, brutal-use everyday carry fixed survival blade. Made in America, used worldwide. DPx is now returning the knife to its original manufacturer, Shon Rowen and Micro Tool.

The DPx HEST Original changed the way professionals think of a survival blade. It had to be with you to be useful, and it couldn't fail when deployed. The HEST features an "over built" blade crafted from high-carbon 1095 hardened and tempered steel that delivers a 57-58 Rockwell hardness. A material that stands up to abuse and still takes quick strops in the field.

The HEST concept was created by adventurer Robert Young Pelton who applied his time in three dozen conflicts and adventures through more than 120 countries to come up with the perfect balance of concealability, utility and fail-safe operation in an innovative blade. You will find every aspect of the DPx HEST thought out: the balance, lashing points, thumb control, wire breaker and even the ability to remove the hollow Micarta® handles for use as a neck knife. The HEST features a number of improvements from its first iteration: a stronger handle and a revamped, MOLLE-compatible DeSantis Kydex® sheath with "pull the dot" snaps. The DPx HEST also includes a pry bar, brass screws, and a no-questions-asked lifetime warranty that customers have come to expect from DPx Gear. Patent Pending.

DPX Hest
I carry this knife with me almost everyday. The blade is just the right size for almost any task and the overall construction is rock solid. One of my favorite parts about the knife is the length of the blade. Being under 3.5" means that it is legal to carry the knife almost anywhere.

Practical everyday carry knife
An everyday carry kind of knife, Sharp, easy to handle, lightweight...sometimes I forget that I have it on my belt. During the short time that I had this knife, I have used it for fishing (cutting lines), 3-day backpacking trip (cutting 550-cord and using the bottle opener/pot lift notch), and during a BBQ where it was used to cut some steaks as well as to open some beers. I used 550-cord to lash it on my belt. There's some give, but for me, it's OK. Depending on the task at hand or if I am sitting or standing, I can move the knife along the length of the belt so that it doesn't dig into my sides.
