Pros: Head Material, Balance, Construction, Weight, Handle Material
I am an active 62 year old, 5'8", 161#, decent condition from chores and cycling. I am from south Alabama and grew up on a farm in my early years. We still own the land and I've always loved the outdoors and doing things by hand. I have used axes but never one like this. It came sharp and it stays sharp for a long time. In about 3 minutes I cut through an 8-9" D oak snag 20' tall left after a logging cut. I have a photo but don't know how to attach. This axe made 3-4" slices through that green wood which I have never experienced before. If I were more accurate, time would be less. I am not a great axe swinger, but if you cut at a steep angle the axe seems to slice rather than cut, with better access through the grain. It also works on limbs/trunks on the ground. I straddle the trunk and swing at a steep angle and it's like magic. Observe a beaver's cut on a tree. It is at a steep angle, about 70 degrees. Excellent product and the carbon steel responds well to sharpening. I use ceramic stones and get great results. I am building a collection of Wetterling axes. I now have the small hunting axe, scandinavian forest axe and this one. Next will be the maul. Superb and I highly recommend. Knife Center service and shipping is great.
