Description
SAW20H: Large Hunting Axe
Wetterlings

Wetterling Axes are hand forged from Swedish quality steel alloyed with Manganese and Vanadium. Hand forging with presses that deliver many blows makes the axe edges stronger than dropforging. The special axe steel alloy makes high quality hardening possible. After grinding, hardening and tempering, the Wetterling axes keep a Rockwell hardness of 57-58. These are the main reasons the Wetterling axes hold a keen edge with good "sting" longer than most axes. The handles are lathed from American hickory, the choice handle materials for its stress capacity and resistance to blows. 18-3/4" Overall. 6" Axe Head with 3 1/4" cutting edge. Head Weighs 1.54 Pounds. Handle has lanyard hole. Leather blade cover does not have belt loop. Made in Sweden.

solid purchase, could have been 5 star
I purchased this axe to stand as my all around backpacking and camping axe, and it is exactly what I wanted. Its light, feels sturdy, and best of all simple. I've read complaints about how it could be grinded smooth, I on other other hand love the rough natural feel of the forged steel. It says that the poll is polished. Its not. It looks like they spent a few seconds on the edges of the poll, but I would not say polished. That really isn't a big deal though, just a bit misleading. I'm a fan of the sturdy leather sheath, I just wish it had a loop for a belt or attaching to molle webbing. Again not a big issue. Overall I'm very happy with this axe. It feels worth its money. I would have given it 5 stars if it had that little loop, but that was a frustration so 4 it is.

Sweet!
This axe is quality crafted from head to handle. Sharp right out of the sheath with a fine, straight grained handle. Great balance. The 18" length is just right for my outdoor activities.
