Description
SCCCST3: Chris Caine "Signature" Survival Tool, Special Edition
Scorpion Knives

Chris Caine hasn't just learned how to survive, he's used his skills to live wild for 15 years! With a team of highly experienced survival experts, he now runs a successful survival school that provides no-nonsense, high quality, survival instruction and advice to people from all walks of life with any level of experience.

Chris designed the Chris Caine Survival Tool for both the professional or serious survival enthusiast. The knife has an extremely strong construction with the capability to carry out tough arduous tasks such as cutting mature trees of both soft and hard wood. This survival tool can be used to build shelters, reflectors, rafts, and is capable of clearing landing zones if necessary in remote wilderness or jungle. It has the finesse to prepare wood for kindling, but can split logs with ease, and can be used to construct traps and prepare wild food, all whilst keeping an excellent edge. The tool has undergone extensive testing, both by Chris and by independent survival experts in the Canadian wilderness, deserts of America, South Africa and Borneo jungle.

Each Chris Caine Survival Tool starts out being laser cut from steel that is specified by us so that we are certain it will perform the duty it has been designed for. The heat treatment of the steel also plays a crucial part in our manufacturing process to deliver a blade that will not easily break, but will hold a keen edge.

The blade is made from 3/16" (5 mm), 75 Carbon Steel and is hardened to 52-54 Rockwell. It has a full tang and the blade has a shallow convex grind which allows for a more durable edge, ease of sharpening and protects the cutting edge when using the survival tool for heavy work. Yet at just over 26.5 oz. (750 g), it's light enough to be worn on your belt.

When chopping with this tool the fingers are kept well away from the material being hit thanks to the deep curve in the cutting edge. The back of the blade has a rounded off section so when hitting this tool with another cutting of wood there is less likelihood of damaging anything. The handle has been designed with three main grips, meaning that power and control can be altered depending on the job in hand. Further back along the blade the spine has been left with a crisp square edge for scraping wood in order to obtain a very fine fibrous layer that will easily take a spark for starting a fire.

The Special Edition Chris Caine Survival Tool is hand made from start to finish, from profiling out the blades, hardening & tempering, assembly, grinding, right up to the final polish are all done in house. It comes with a polished blade, a handle made of exquisite spiced walnut, and has a high quality leather safety sheath of the same safety design as the standard tool.

To maintain this knife at it's best, the blade should be dried after use and lightly oiled before being stored for any period of time.

Pros: Blade Sharpness, Sheath/Scabbard, Overall Quality, Finish, None
Cons: Weight, Handle Material
Strong Blade - Horrible Handle
I purchased this 10 inch and also an 8 inch version. The 8 inch is much more preferable in that both have think strong blades with the same profile but the 8 inch has a lighter and smaller / more comfortable fit on the handle. The larger one's handle is way too large for the average person and with the weight of it, you will find your hand sliding at times. Would be nice if they made the 8 inch with the walnut handle. Other than the weight and handle though, it's a quality choice for a large survival knife with a machete / kukri functionality.
