Pros: Blade Sharpness, Pocket Clip, Overall Quality, Handle Material, Blade Material, None
Cons: Lock Type, Ease of Opening, Handle Feel, Lock Ease of Use
A fine knife, but mildly impracticable.
I received this knife as a gift, my friend also bought one of the other blade shapes for himself. The blade was reasonably sharp and the knifes construction is quite sturdy, however it is in someways impractical. With the lock, which sends a stud in front of the blade, I never feared it would open in my pocket and although the handle was an odd shape it fit my hands, which are considerably large, rather well. The blade locked solidly in place and as I put it through the rigors of my days at the lumber yard I had no fear the knife would give when properly used. The thin profile and sturdy pocket clip adds to a nice carry attached to your pocket or even slip to the bottom of it. It is a quality product especially considering the price point and variation in the models. With all above being said I have to add I stopped carrying it. The main reason is because I find it impracticable. As I pull the knife out of my pocket I have adjust my grip to push through the hole in the pocket clip, I then ensure my fingers are clear of the way and open it. Closing the blade feels awkward leaving me to once again ensure all my fingers out of the way as I oddly maneuver my fingers to both pull down the lock, and close the blade. This all feels incredibly awkward, and I have to look at my hand to close this knife, which is an inconvenience when I have things in my other hand and am trying to just get the knife safe. For self defense, which is what you may gather the use is based on the militant name I also find this odd. The knife has to be a good distance from the body to open if you stab anything while holding this knife you will slice your hand because there is little buffer between the handle and the blade. You could presumably hold your index finger in the hole you use to spring open the blade, but then the knife become a lever to break your finger if god forbid you end up in a situation where you are scuffling for control of the knife. I mainly use this knife now as a talking piece. I show off the cool way it opens and look a the way its designed, but that's it. It sits in a draw and I break it out if I need to open a box and it is the closed knife. It's not a bad knife, it just sacrifices utility for style and innovation.
