Description
SP101PSBL2: C101PSBL2 Manix2 Translucent Blue
Spyderco

The lightweight Manix2 has arrived and is drawing praise and winning accolades, including Blade Magazine's 2010 Most Innovative American Design.

Like its G-10 handled counterpart, the lightweight Manix2 features the Ball Bearing Lock. The lock operates around a free-floating ball bearing contained inside a custom polymer cage. The ball bearing's round shape allows the lock to self-adjust across a large surface ensuring smooth and consistent lock-up every time it is engaged. The Ball Bearing Lock is engineered to be self contained meaning there is no need for internal liners to support it, allowing the folder to be manufactured liner-free and extraordinarily light weight.

The translucent EdgeTek FRCP (fiberglass reinforced co-polymer) handle is semi-opaque dusk blue with a series of jimped areas molded around the handle's perimeter. Additionally Bi-Directional Texturing covers both sides of the handle scale making the folder better for gripping in wet or uncertain conditions.

The blade is made from newly released BD-1 Carpenter steel. BD-1 is gaining the attention of knife enthusiasts for its high carbon and chromium content that is rust-resistant while offering enduring edge retention. The blade is flat-ground with spine and choil jimping and an oversized Spyderco Round Hole.

An ambidextrous, tip-up wire silhouette pocket clip and screw-together handle construction make the folder user friendly with several and carry options.

LOVE this knife
I have carried this knife every day for 6 months or so, I have 5 or 6 Spydercos & Dont know how many others....This is the one I invariably grab on way out the door. Nice & light, scary-sharp, I was a Fish-cutter & meat-cutter in a previous life & cannot abide a dull knife! I dont know WHAT the other reviewer is talking about, re: "not an EDC"? It is almost a PERFECT edc in my book. The lock is not DESIGNED for thumb-only....pull it from rear pocket pinch between thumb & index (exactly as you would hold any one-hand opener)...give a VERY gentle wrist-flick....& sss-nick! Its out....Reverse order...& slip back into pocket. I have seen the look of amazement on faces, mine is out, used, & put-away...while Joe Blow is still trying to get his outta the pocket. I am ordering anothe...JIC something happens to this one! Carpenter- BD1 steel is the tits too! most beautiful steel I ever saw....Almost looks like Hematite in the right light. Knife Ctr ROCKS too! cant beat this combo!

Big Knife, Light Package
Its a larger knife that has little weight to have to pack around. The lock mechanism is a little tough to operate at first, but will break in with use. Typical out-of-the-box Spyderco sharpness and quality. The choil is quite functional if your fingers aren't too chunky.

I like this knife but...
I like this knife, but not completely. It's bigger than it looks, although it is light weight. The handle is ergonomic and non-slip, but this is definitely not an EDC. The blade appears to be big enough for most jobs. I don't care for the roller lock system, at least on this knife. The action to open the blade isn't all that smooth. There's an initial catch before it smooths out. I don't consider myself a weakling, but I can't activate the release button with just my thumb; it takes both thumb and forefinger - which is not a convenient process to unlock the blade. I wonder if the "plastic" (or whatever kind of polymer it is) button is responsible for this as my Dallara Rescue knife is much smoother, although the release on the Dallara isn't especially easy to access either. I like the shade of blue and the translucent handle is neat. I'll keep this knife, although I probably wouldn't have purchased it if I'd known about these issues. I won't buy another roller lock Spyderco knife unless I know the action is smoother and easier to use.
