SP10PGRE: Endura Flat Ground Green
Spyderco Knives

In 1990 Spyderco shook things up by introducing two knives, the Delica and Endura. First of their kind on the market, both folders opened up the knife market to lightweight performance, one-hand open pocketknives that just about everyone could afford. They settled as Spyderco's top two bestsellers and their improvement hasn't slowed since. Refinement has been so ongoing and continual Spyderco tagged the updating/upgrading process with the term CQI- Constant Quality Improvement. During the Endura and Delica's CQI journey Spyderco tweaked ergonomics, refined blade steels and fine-tuned their performance countless times. They are an evolutionary work in progress and the next level is here with the new Endura4 and Delica4. Both models now have screw construction making cleaning and adjusting easier. The fiberglass reinforced nylon handles come molded with Bi-Directional Texturing® for preferred traction and improved ergonomics. Inside the handle dual skeletonized stainless steel liners make the knife stronger without adding weight and make an anchor for all external and internal components to attach through adding sturdiness and rigidity. This model has the super ZDP189 stainless steel developed by Hitachi of Japan. The blades are flat saber-ground with a stronger tip and larger 13mm opening hole. Added to the blade's spine is slip resistant jimping. Phosphor bronze bushings smooth out the open/close action and the clip is upgraded to a four-way tip-up, tip-down, left- or right-handed clip.

The knife industry is constantly pushing the envelope searching for, and testing, higher performance blade steels. ZDP189 is rapidly asserting itself as an up-and-coming steel. It's a powdered metal made by Hitachi that has phenomenal chemistry with 3% carbon. The hardness is around 64Rc and edge retention is exceptional. This solid ZDP-189 steel blade is the hottest, hardest and highest performing steel in the knife industry today.

The original locking mechanism. It can be found mid spine or at the bottom of the handle, and it provides tight lockup that will wear well.

Pros: Blade Sharpness, Ease of Opening, Lock Ease of Use, Blade Material, None
Cons: Handle Feel, Handle Material
Could be better
A fine example of a high tech functional product, but somehow lacking the character found on some other products like the Buck 110, Kershaw Leek, Al Mar Eagle HD, or even the Spyderco Caly in ZDP. The ZDP blade is extremely sharp and well finished. Opening and lockup is smooth and secure. Although dimensionally adequate for emergency tactical use, it is very light weight, which somehow does not inspire much confidence. The handle, though quite grippy, feels plasticky and hollow. Would give it 5 stars if it came with G10 or micarta handles.

Wow! Now THAT is a SHARP knife!
I am a Spyderco knife-knut who, in days past spent 20+ Years as a professional "Fish Cutter" for a large wholesaler in Commercial Fisheries. I was also a Butcher on a Tuna boat, as well as a Meat Cutter for Grocery chain.....Used to fillet 1000# of Grouper- before lunch. I have spent un-told hours gripping/using a, I LIKE to think I know a thing or two about knives & sharpening, etc. I have a couple dozen different Spydercos, (several being Enduras)...One thing I have always LOVED about them, besides the overall quality, is that I have NEVER received a dull knife from Spyderco....ever! I have to say....I have NEVER had a knife- out of the box- as sharp as this ZDP flat-groud Endura! I only received the knife today, but overall quality is typical, top-notch Spyderco....& Knife Ctr. pulled off THEIR typical fast, inexpensive service. Stop thinking about it, & just ORDER the damn thing! There IS no better knife for $100.....PERIOD!! You wont be sorry you bought one. The only thing I would like to see that would make me give 6 out of 5 stars? I wish they'd offer one with the 'Ball Bearing' lock, I LOVE that lock system!

Spyderco Endura 4 ZDP-189
This blade arrived really sharp and I love it as an EDC. For people with smaller hands though, the delica may be a better choice.
