SP132GP: Chokwe

Knives as essential tools exist in every culture on earth. Their shape and style dictated by their people’s needs, be those agricultural, spiritual or self preserving. Certainly ethnic styles of cutlery have been lost to history but many designs are still today used and revered in their respective countries. Taking those individual designs and adding a “Spyderco touch” is the core of Spyderco’s Ethnic Series folders and most recently the Chokwe. Chokwe people live in the Zambia/Democratic Republic of Congo region of Central Africa. Primarily agricultural, they are gatherers, fishermen and hunters. Highly positioned in their society are blacksmiths who craft fixed blade knives for daily use in feeding, harvesting and protecting their communities. Our Chokwe folder is patterned off a historic fixed-blade, keeping true to the triangular shaped blade and coffin-shaped handle. The blade is CPM-S30V blade steel and ground flat. The handle is black G-10 with bored-out handle holes reducing overall weight and creating holes for attachment to a long handle or pole, (think spear). Full length internal liners reinforce the Reeve Integral Linerlock (R.I.L.). Metal hourglass clip carries the knife tucked in the pocket tip-up right hand carry. There is nothing on the modern market like it.

Pactical Awesome Knive....A Sleeper!
This is a great knife and since it's not that popular you can get it at a great price. This is an exceptionally well executed design that is very practical with an outstanding utility blade shape for every day tasks. Opens smoothly, ti framlock, no blade play, good steel, tip up/down design (right sided only). Only negative is lack of jimping on spine though there is jimping on the small shaped choil. Weighs only 3.6 oz on my scale. Rides nicely in the pocket. This is a knife that probably won't be around forever. I'd get one if you were riding on the fence about it. Bought here at KCI!

Fantastic Knife
Spyderco makes great and unique knives that are very ergonomic. The Chokwe is not a workhorse EDC, the tip of the knife is very thin. It is a very handsome knife that is one of the best slicers I have used. The deployment of the Chokwe is incredibly smooth and fast. I would almost put this knife in the gentlemen's folder class due to it's thin profile and aesthetics. It is very light for a knife with ha 3.75" blade. I don't even notice when it is in my pocket. I have been carrying it as a light-use EDC blade for about a month now and have been tremendously happy with it. This knife is very well made and designed with really cool history behind its making. The sale makes this knife very affordable, it is worth a lot more. definitely a keeper!
