Timberline do-all/be-all nylon sheath
This sheath was purchased as a carry option for two knives- a Bradley Kimura balisong, which didn't come with any sheath, and a Leatherman Wave that came with a newer design leather sheath with a belt loop that just about takes the "jaws of life" to actually get on a belt. i wanted the horizontal carry option this sheath offers and it is satisfactory for either of the knives. This sheath is very ruggedly constructed, well made and of excellent quality. It has not one, not two, but three compartments. The main compartment is designed to accommodate objects primarily between 5" and 5 1/2" long, 1 3/4" wide and 3/4" thick without modification. Something 6" long would be about max and you might want to be handy with needle and thread to sew the strap to the flap over the top at the very edge of the flap for a neat closing. Something much shorter than about 5" that isn't very thick might slip out- there's quite a bit of open space on the sides which are closed only up to about 3 1/2" but this space allows for easily fetching larger tools. Whatever goes into either of the two smaller compartments would have to be VERY slim- about 1/4" thick X about 4" long X about 1 3/8" wide. But there's room for a pocket diamond sharpener and maybe a fire steel. i like the plastic buckle closure, it's quieter than hook/loop or snaps to open and you can set the length of the strap and forget about adjustments. On the back is a long strap with a snap at one end for a vertical carry belt loop and two straps with hook/loop fastening, good quality, well sewn, for horizontal carry. Either way, the sheath can be attached to a belt without removing the belt. Cool. There are also a total of 4 molle attachment straps on the back, two of which are formed by the backs of the the horizontal carry loops. i like options. There's a grommeted hole at the bottom of the sheath on the front, presumably for draining but could possibly be another attachment point. On either side of the sheath is an elastic compression band to help keep the sheath more compact. i'm not a big fan of elastic bands for long-term durability but these are pretty heavy duty. The sheath is a bit longer than really needed for the Leatherman Wave and slightly heavier than the made-to-fit black leather and elastic sheath that came with the Leatherman and wider and deeper than needed for the slim Bradley but a secure and satisfactory solution for both. There's obviously been quite a bit of attention to detail lavished on the design and construction of this item. If i have any complaint, it's that it's over-engineered for most people's practical use. The result is that this sheath is a little bulky; if you're thinking 'concealed carry', look elsewhere. If you're looking for a carry solution for hard working tools in this size range, this is a very good quality, durable product at a very decent price. KnifeCenter is the only place i've found this item in tan. It's actually something of a cross between tan and olive drab- a slightly greenish tan. Looks great with a black belt and bluejeans or pretty much disappear into most camo patterns. This item also does come in black. i'm not aware of any additional color options here. KnifeCenter's price is also a little less than anywhere else i'd found this item in any color. It did take a little longer than expected to ship but good things come to he who waits. KnifeCenter's customer service, as usual, has been outstanding.
