Chinese garbage
Mine came with a mis-ground edge. There was a a bad flat spot at the top of the edge. I reground it with an extra coarse stone but it took 2 hours. Horrified to see the hatchet is made in china. Shame on timberline. Found a german steel one for less money and much higher quality. The blade dulls very easily. Crap.

Excellant small hatchet/cleaver
I bought this to use as a cleaver while dressing white tail deer. It works well for cleaving heads off catfish and bullheads. You can bear down on the back side with your hand to really crunch thru tough stuff. This is a heavily built thick bladed cleaver with a handle. It is slightly head heavy but that works well when you need to get thru bone. Very sharp out of the box. Hollow ground dual edge. That makes for a very sharp blade with a handle but it isnt going to be a durable edge to use for felling trees. It is ideal for butcher work and fish cleaning and light delimbing IE clearing firelines for a deer stand and opening a fishing spot on an overgrown river bank. handle halves are screwed on so tighten the screws with a pair of large standard screwdrivers when you get it home. Very happy with this special purpose hatchet/cleaver
