Description
TORE3010: Ranger's Edge RE3010 Micarta Handle
TOPS Knives

Master Sergeant Kim Breed 5th Special Forces RET., is a notable knife maker as well as an authority on Blades. In an article appearing in Blade Magazine March 2002 The article about "knives at war - blades in Afghanistan" he wrote "Pieces such as the Ranger's Edge from TOPS Knives are among those being taken to Afghanistan by the author's buddies from the 5th Special Forces."

This is a double edged fine crafted tool with an outstanding pry tip extending from the handle, helping you to avoid prying with the point of the knife. A definite "will carry" in harms way, the Ranger's Edge dagger is double edge for excellent stabbing capability and partially serrated on one edge for maximum utility cutting performance. This knife is available with a Micarta or cord wrapped handle, both will serve you well and are removable for an extremely thin profile carry knife.

Outstanding combat dagger
Just received it and first impression is great. Solid sheath with a snug fit: gives a menacing (def not stealthy) snik upon removal. Replacing in the sheath with a firm "snap" and holds tight with no play whatsoever. Belt attachment is by a well constructed (yet removable) clip of spring steel that wraps completely around the belt: no slipping off. It has 8 pierced holes with small allen bolts on one side (no rivets) and doesn't seem to quite mesh with my molle or Tek-lok, although adding one hole would do the trick. I'm kinda hung up on praising the sheath as its better than the kydex I've gotten on $200+ knives (hello Blackhawk...). As for the knife itself, a meaty grey/black micarta (not polished, glad to see) with jimping at the guard and mid-handle for removal from the snug sheath. Cross-guard is small but enough to do the job while keeping the profile sleek. Blade is a thick full-tang with built-in prybar at the base: clever for a dagger point such as this. However, the point itself isn't structurally unsound as the blade maintains its approximately 3/16" thickness until very near the tip. The blade is flat ground while leaving roughly a 1/4" wide strip mid-blade at full thickness. The blades shape is reminiscent of a beefed-up MkII: widening slightly in a mild spear-head fashion with squared "tooth" serrations like the MkII yet on only one side. I like this type of serration as it doesn't dull as quickly, points are less likely to break yet can be easily sharpened with a stone or stick. The blade's matte black coating looks thick but I have yet to put it to the test. I can't say exactly what my specific use for this will be, most likely as a mid-size outsoorsmans technical alternative to larger ESEE or Kabar blades. Not having any connections with the armed forces I can't testify as to its use in combat but, from the standpoint of a knowledgeable observer and history buff, this looks and feels every bit as good as the knives used in theaters of war over the last 75 years.

solid
Handle is well finished, blade is solid and sharp from factory. Exactly the kind of solid dagger i was looking for. Possible improvement might be slightly larger hand guard on the blade but this is just a design improvement possibly. The sheath fits like a glove, very nice sheath!
