WP481: Woodman's Pal Classic Model 481 with Nylon Sheath
Woodman's Pal

A Unique Tool Offering Optimum Performance, Usefulness and Power, Artful Beauty In Its Handiwork and a Proud History In its Design

This blade cuts branches and wood up to 1-1/2” in diameter with a single stroke. Its unique sickle hook slices through stubborn vines and briars and removes unwanted sprout growth at ground level.

The Woodman’s Pal is a brush axe/machete that can perform the tasks of many tools including machetes, axes, hatchets, pruning saws, pruning shears, pruning knives, bow saws, loppers, Bowie knives and for certain jobs, even chain saws. It allows you to trim, prune, blaze trails, brush out lines, remove unwanted growth and build duck blinds.

Designed in 1941 in Pennsylvania by Artist and Engineer, Frederick Ehrsam of Victor Tool Company, these unique high quality tools continue to be made right here in Pennsylvania, with only USA made raw materials.

These All-American tools are made of the highest grade American steel and the best American ash wood by dedicated Pennsylvania craftsmen, and those craftsmen’s precision and attention to detail are testaments of their commitment to our USA Pride: Build it once Build it right.

Today, the Woodman’s Pal is still praised by forest and land managers, surveyors, campers, hikers, hunters, soldiers, handymen, scouts, fishermen, gardeners and any outdoorsman or woman.

Nylon Sheath

Heavy density 1800 denier waterproof cordura nylon with nickel snap and rivet, belt loop and convenient Velcro closure with honing stone. Finished with a Woodman’s Pal® logo patch, this is an excellent alternative to leather.

Pros: Sheath/Scabbard, Blade Sharpness, Handle Material, Weight, Overall Quality, None
Cons: Blade Material
Not to shaby
Took it camping in a temperate rain forest. Not deep woods or anything, campsites. Main use this time out was firewood chopping. Worked great! Except when I hit a big knot and I kept trying to go through and chipped the blade but, that is my stupidity not the products. The hook came in handy when tending the fire as well. My only real complaint is 72 hour of west coast Canadian rain forest and the blade is pretty rusty already. Nothing a little gun oil didn't fix but, if I 'm in the bush for a week I don't want to have to add more kit to my ...... kit.

Pros: Materials, Weight, Finish, None
Cons: Overall Quality, Materials, Blade Sharpness
Why not a sharpened end
I'm kinda angry when I received mine. It seems that they decided it would be better use without a sharpened tip. How many machetes, corn knives, and other working tools use this? After I used it in the back yard to cut some tree limbs, the handle came loose. Sending mine back.

Pros: Blade Sharpness, Sheath/Scabbard, Handle Material, Blade Material, Materials, Weight, Overall Quality, Finish
Cons: None
More utility than I expected.
The dull "hammer" at the tip is perfect for knocking small dead limbs off young pines. The sharpened blade slices through the larger limbs. The hook is great for clearing vines and moving the stuff you've cut. This thing has earned it's place with my chainsaw, helmet, and gas can.
