1095 Carbon Steel
1095 Carbon Steel
An excellent hard use steel, 1095 is a primary choice for camping and larger fixed blade knives for its extreme toughness and ability to hold an edge. Corrosion resistance is very limited with this steel, most blades come with a coating to prevent premature rusting.

Pros: Materials, Handle Material, Sheath/Scabbard, Blade Sharpness, Weight, Blade Material, None
Cons: Finish, Overall Quality
Not the most beautiful knife I have ever seen, but maybe that is a good thing. Instead of thinking about messing it up when I use it, I'll just use it. The only complaint I have is the handle fit and quality. Like other reviews of ProTool knives, the wood to metal fit is not good. It isn't so bad as to make it uncomfortable to hold, but it definintely seems to be hastily thrown together. There is also a spot where there is a chunk of wood missing on the bottom next to the blade. That's what I get for buying online and I would not have purchased this exact knife in person, given the chance to compare a few to pick the best example on hand. Mine did not come with J. Wayne Fears etched into the handle.
