Zippo Hand Warmers Work
The Zippo Hand Warmer, (ZHW) is a neat package for keeping a spot in a pocket warm for thawing out cold hands. When fully charged with Zippo lighter fluid, it runs better than 18 hours, delivering heat at a very comfortable temperature. The zippo fuel is relatively expensive, but goes a long way. I am guessing it costs about a dollar in fuel for a run. It is my experience that there needs to be a drop or two of raw fuel placed on the burner before attempting to light. This produces an open flame which dies down and goes out in 10-15 seconds. The catalytic burner continues to produce a flameless heat until all fuel is gone. This method of lighting is different from the instructions supplied with the ZHW. The only issue I have with the units is the cost of the fuel. However, the colder my hands get, the less of an issue that is.
